Overview

Today we’ll have a closer look at the Nike Giannis Immortality 2 basketball shoes and review its features. Just after its debut in the NBA Giannis Antetokounmpo has closed a deal with Nike that years later proves to be so prolific that the player now has two shoe lines with the brand. Given the success the Zoom Freak series has had since it was introduced four years ago Nike decided to come up with the Giannis Immortality basketball shoe which at $85 retail price is a more budget friendly option than his signature shoe. The 2nd edition of this shoe debuted in 2022, being in many aspects very similar to the first edition.

How They Fit

We got a pair in black, white blue and yellow in 2023 and decided to have a look at it. They come in a blue personalized box with the player’s number 34, his name and logo on it. Given that they are a budget shoe we did not have much expectations. First off they look great, with a very distinct design given by the reverse Swoosh logo and the wavy midsole lines. It has a silhouette that can easily pass for a lifestyle sneaker which is not surprising given that it’s a Nike shoe. They weigh just over 13 oz for a size 10.5 which is not bad for a basketball shoe. They fit true to size with no need to break them in, yet the sole may seem a bit stiff the first few times you wear them. Upper

The upper of the Nike Giannis Immortality 2 is made of a mesh material with some synthetic overlays in the front. Given the low price the materials are pretty basic but they certainly do the job. The mesh is very breathable and there is a good amount of cushion given by the tongue, heel area and the EVA insert. The toe box is quite roomy and overall the shoe gives you a good lockdown fit. These are great to wear on indoor courts and warm weather. The back of the shoe features some cushion pads on the outside of the shoe that we’ve also seen at the first edition and have a purely design purpose.

Sole Unit

It did not take us much to notice while doing our Nike Giannis Immortality 2 review how solid these feel on the basketball courts. The material used for the outsole is basic Phylon but the way it is shaped makes up for the lack of any advanced technology in the shoe. Much like the Zoom Freak 4 the midsole becomes wider in the forefront as it gets closer to the outsole, thus adding extra stability to the shoe. The whole sole unit is shaped like a cupsole that holds the foot nicely in place when making sudden moves on the court. The midsole is quite responsive and has a close to court feel which likely is appreciated by smaller players or guards in general. The outsole has an identical design with the first edition , delivering excellent traction, especially on the indoor courts.

Bottom Line

Our Nike Giannis Immortality 2 review cemented our initial impression of this shoe, the one of a solid price friendly basketball shoe that delivers. While Nike used basic materials and no significant technology in building this shoe it is a decent sneaker that you can wear on and off the court. They offer excellent stability which makes them good to wear even in the gym. Several colorways are available to match with any attire. If still in doubt you can check out the KD Trey 5 or the LeBron Witness series, both in the same price range.
