Given that we recently got a pair in our favorite colorway, Puma Axelion NXT makes the subject of your sneaker review this week. This sneaker was released a few years back as part of Puma’s brand effort to modernize its sneaker lineup. Much like adidas and Reebok the brand has relied much too long on their retro shoes. Following up these brands and others Puma took  their retros as an inspiration to come up with some contemporary looks with updated technology.

How They Fit

We got a pair of Puma Axelion in navy and white for $75, their retail price. Out of the box you cannot but admire the sleek design with a quite unconventional lacing system. They fit just right as you first put them on, mainly due to the seamless forefront and the memory foam insole that molds to your feet.  If unsure about the size you need you can always check our Puma shoes size chart here

Upper

The upper of the Puma Axelion is made of mesh with some synthetic overlay on the sides for added support. The brand has adopted the sock-like fit with this sneaker, with minimal stitching that we only find on the sides. The lacing system has 2 rows of eyelets on each side for a quite interesting look. It also adds to the stability of the foot and the way it molds to your feet. It is not surprising that some with wide feet felt comfortable in these even if they got the medium width. During our short Puma Axelion review we’ve also noticed how breathable these are, making them a great choice during hot summer days or even for light gym workouts.

Sole Unit

The sole unit features a removable SoftFoam insole that is much like a memory foam for your feet. It adds instant cushioning as you put them on but , if you wear them for long hours you start losing the comfort effect as it does not provide much return energy as you step. The arch support in these is a bit limited, the feel is one of a flat sole as you put them on. The midsole features a hard TPU shank in the midfoot that has the role of adding some stability to this shoe that is otherwise very flexible. Lastly the outsole is made of a thin rubber sole to add traction and durability. Using these for limited casual running or some gym activity is an option but, due to the lack of energy return we cannot recommend them for other than casual wear. If you’re looking for a more solid gym shoe you can consider having a look at the Reebok Workout Plus. The Puma Axelion runs true to size. Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a stylish shoe that will not break the bank, these are surely worth trying. They have a modern look and feel great on feet as soon as you put them on. We decided to make this Puma Axelion review when we noticed how popular this sneaker has become since its release. It is available in a plethora of colorways, for both men, women and kids. Especially the kids will appreciate these as they tend to need less arch support , whether in school or on the playground. If you’re looking for a more versatile shoe in this price range the New Balance Fresh Foam ROAV is surely one worth checking out.
